Sanford Michelman is a founder of Michelman & Robinson, LLP. Mr. Michelman serves as the Chair of the Firm's Executive Committee. Michelman & Robinson ("M&R") is a national law firm with offices in Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento, San Francisco, New York and New Jersey. Mr. Michelman is a uniquely versatile attorney who is skilled in litigation practice. He specializes in complex business issues in the insurance, commercial, regulatory, and financing industries, regularly representing numerous multi-national institutional clients and small to mid-size companies. He has extensive experience advocating on behalf of his clients in arbitrations, state and federal courts, and administrative proceedings, and has successfully defended companies against multi-millions of dollars in litigation exposure. Mr. Michelman routinely defends clients in high exposure & profile litigation (including class actions), with tremendous success. He is called upon to represent clients in the most challenging and difficult matters. His approach is to find solutions in a manner that accomplishes the long term goals of his clients. He has successfully defeated class certification motions on behalf of his clients in various large exposure cases. In addition, Mr. Michelman has successfully and routinely defends insurers and brokers/agents against various state insurance departments from various enforcement actions. Mr. Michelman's approach in the regulatory arena has resulted in invitations to lecture and speak at various trade and bar associations on litigation and regulatory practice; successes in declaring regulations? as underground regulations?; having statutes declared unconstitutional, and misapplied interpretations of codes by the courts and government. In addition, Mr. Michelman has successfully assisted in the passing and opposing of legislation that impacts his clients and their respective industries. In the last decade, Mr. Michelman's accomplishments have been recognized throughout California. In 2001, Governor Gray Davis appointed Mr. Michelman to the State Athletic Commission. In 2002, Mr. Michelman was elected by his fellow Commission Members as Vice-Chairman of the Commission. In 2004, his fellow Commission Members elected him Chairman of the Commission. He has also been a member of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association's Board of Trustees. Mr. Michelman previously interned for Howard M. Metzenbaum (D-Ohio), United States Senator, where he worked on the investigation of Executive Life Insurance, Inc., the nomination of Associate Justice Clarence Thomas of the United States Supreme Court, and other matters. Mr. Michelman has handled countless high exposure and profile matters that are commonly reported upon by the press. Mr. Michelman has been honored by the California State Bar for his pro bono work at Bet Tzedek and is consistently named to the state's most prestigious achievement lists; including the Daily Journal's Top 20 Under 40? in 2003, Super Lawyers in 2003 through 2011, and the San Fernando Valley Business Journal's Top 25 Lawyers? and "Top Forty Under 40," among others. Mr. Michelman routinely lectures on legal issues regarding transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters and has also published countless articles in the legal community.
