About Sally Hoffman
Sally L. Hoffman is a Berdon partner and Co-Director of the Forensic Accounting and Investigative Services Group. She is expert at litigation consulting with in-depth expertise in investigating alleged fraudulent financial reporting and in the application of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards in diverse matters. Ms. Hoffman is also experienced in assessing lost profits, calculating damages, and fraud investigations. A nationally recognized authority on accounting and auditing standards, professional ethics, and SEC reporting requirements, Ms. Hoffman has been active in setting the standards of the profession. She served on all three senior technical committees of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA): the Auditing Standards Board; the Accounting Standards Executive Committee; and the Professional Ethics Executive Committee. She also served on the Professional Standards and Practices Committee of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. In addition, she was a member of the Auditing Standards Board's Fraud Task Force, which drafted the new auditing standard, Statement of Auditing Standards No. 99, Consideration of Fraud in a Financial Statement Audit and served on the AICPA Fraud Task Force. Ms. Hoffman's experience in consulting on and rendering opinions in matters regarding adhering to professional standards is extensive. Working on both the plaintiff and defense side, she has been retained by counsel defending CPAs and those alleging violations of professional standards. She has been retained as an expert by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as well as by defendants appearing before the SEC. The U.S. Attorney's Office and defendants in investigations brought by that office have also retained her as an expert. With her wide experience testifying in federal courts, state courts, SEC Administrative Proceedings, and at arbitration hearings on professional malpractice issues, she has been cited by a federal court judge as well qualified and fully credible. Prior to joining Berdon, she was partner in charge of litigation services at two other firms and was an audit partner and member of the national accounting advisory office at a Big Four firm. SELECTED PUBLICATIONS AND PRESENTATIONS Her articles include Accounting for Business Combinations and Goodwill and Other Tangible Assets,? published by the Association of the Bar of the City of New York; and Current Developments at the Auditing Standards Board,? What are the Key Issues Today?? appeared in ALI-ABA, Business Law, Course Materials Journal. In addition, she lectures extensively to bar associations and CPA societies. EDUCATION, LICENSES, AND HONORS Ms. Hoffmanwho received the Elijah Watts Sells Gold Medal for the highest score in the United States on the May 1980 CPA examinationholds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Toronto and a master's of business administration degree from Pace University. A Certified Fraud Examiner, she is licensed as a CPA in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Ms. Hoffman also earned the Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) credential of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
