Cynthia C. Thumser, RN, CPHQ, is WVMI's Director of Corporate Accreditation. Cindy is responsible for coordinating the corporation's Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) accreditation efforts through standards interpretation and implementation, policy and procedure development, and quality improvement process initiatives. She also served as the Department of Defense (DOD) Contract Director, overseeing WVMI's efforts to abstract and analyze chart data in US military medical treatment facilities (MTF) around the world. More than 31 abstractors and other staff members were assigned to the project and its support. Before joining WVMI, Ms. Thumser was Executive Director of Medical Associates Health Plans, Inc., a 41,000-member Regional Health Plan. In that position, she oversaw a staff of 60 case managers, claims processors, service representatives, account executives and accountants. Before her promotion, Ms. Thumser was Director of Managed Care. In that position she developed case management programs that led to a reduction in hospital utilization by 50 percent over an eight-year period. In addition, she developed management programs that resulted in savings of nearly $2 million. Ms. Thumser has also been a consultant to an Internet company developing electronic medical record products, and she has reviewed employee benefit programs on a consulting basis.
