Founded in December of 1971, the department consists of over 28 volunteer firefighters and two full-time firefighters and emergency medical technicians. The department provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, and rescue services to the residents of Wabash Township and a portion of Shelby Township, covering approximately 65 square miles. They also provide mutual aid to surrounding agencies in Tippecanoe and neighboring counties. The department operates with a live-in resident at both fire stations, along with three paid members working rotating shifts six days a week. The paid members work from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, while the remaining members are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
