National Farm Medicine Center

The National Farm Medicine Center (NFMC) is a research organization based in Marshfield, Wisconsin. Established in 1981, the center focuses its efforts on the health and safety of rural populations, particularly those in the agricultural sector. NFMC is part of Marshfield Clinic Research Institute and employs 16 people. NFMC conducts research and outreach programs aimed at preventing injuries and fatalities in the agricultural industry. Their priorities include injury surveillance, community education, exploring the farm microbiome and its connection to human immunology, and conducting evaluation research. The center collaborates with various organizations, including the Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the Agricultural Safety and Health Council of America. NFMC houses the editorial offices of the Journal of Agromedicine, a leading publication for peer-reviewed agricultural safety and health information. Additionally, it serves as the location for the National Children’s Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety, one of 12 agricultural centers funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
