TOM M. SCHAUMBERG was born in Amsterdam, Holland and received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his L.L.B. from Harvard Law School in 1963. After a year of post-graduate study in Frankfurt, Germany, he served as an attorney in the Merger Division, Bureau of Restraint of Trade, at the Federal Trade Commission. Mr. Schaumberg's international background as well as his antitrust, business and administrative law experience have enabled him to be active both on behalf of domestic as well as foreign clients in connection with international trade issues. He has litigated numerous unfair competition cases before the USITC, has counseled and represented clients on licensing and trade policy issues, has conducted intellectual property litigation in the federal courts and has engaged in international arbitration. In 1989, Mr. Schaumberg was selected by the U.S. Trade Representative to serve on the binational panels convened under the United States-Canada Free-Trade Agreement to provide review of antidumping and countervailing duty decisions. He was the first President of the ITC Trial Lawyers Association and has continued to serve on its Executive Committee. Mr. Schaumberg was recently appointed to serve as the chair of the newly created ITC Committee of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He also serves on the International Trade Commission (ITC) Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association. Mr. Schaumberg is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has a working knowledge of German, French and Dutch.
