It has so much variety, both internally and externally. It's one of the few jobs that includes teaching, marketing and serving clients in one role, giving you the best of each of these. Externally our industry gives you the freedom to periodically reinvent yourself. I started as a financial services expert, then moved into spending most of my time working with healthcare related clients, and now I ve metamorphosed into being an expert in high tech and bio tech, which I find really exciting.. Public accounting allows me to bring a portable set of skills to a variety of industries. Why do you like working at MGO? I joined MGO because of its culture of freedom and the flexibility to pursue my interests in the way I choose. People here are empowered in terms of scheduling, career paths, and goal setting, but at the same time we experience close mentoring and guidance in making these decisions. Describe a favorite client or client story. I have a lot of great clients, but one in particular that I enjoy working with is a very casual, fun company with a CFO who is very bright, has worked with several successful companies and comes to work in jeans and O'Neill surfing shirts. It's always a pleasure to work with him and his team, even on tough, technical issues. One of our clients is a public company in a rapid change industry. We re especially proud of our service to them because of the bench strength we ve dedicated to resolve very complicated situations in a timely, responsive manner. We ve worked through a hugely complicated transaction with them, a total restructuring of their capital arrangements to avoid a potential bankruptcy, that involved 24/7 service and availability to meet their needs and time constraints. What qualities do you look for in job applicants? I look for inquisitiveness or intellectual curiosity, a desire for continued learning and growth. We try to hire smart people who know who they are and what they want to accomplish in life. I look for them to be engaged in their work and respectful of peers and clients. I really enjoy seeing our college graduate new hires progress over 3-5 years and begin to show a developed leadership style and solid business understanding. Who are you outside the office? Outside the workplace my family is extremely important to me, and I use the flexibility that MGO provides to be able to participate in my son's school and sporting activities. I love the outdoors and cycling, and travel has always been a passion of mine. Recent trips include several weeks in Costa Rica for a Spanish immersion program with my son and his Spanish class.
