Robert C. Norman, Jr. joined the firm in 1982, after serving two years as a law clerk for the United States District Court, Middle District of Georgia. A significant focus of Mr. Norman's practice is in the area of federal and state environmental law, including regulation and permitting, environmental and toxic tort litigation, and environmental aspects of real estate and transactional law. His environmental experience includes solid waste and hazardous waste permitting and litigation, wetlands development, CERCLA cost recovery actions, Georgia Hazardous Site Response Act issues, underground storage tank issues, insurance coverage disputes, and other aspects of environmental law and litigation, as well as the related areas of zoning and land use permitting and litigation, and historic preservation. Mr. Norman also has substantial business and personal injury litigation experience, including in the areas of antitrust law, civil rights law, class action litigation, copyright and trademark infringement, constitutional issues, RICO, ERISA, contract and business disputes, employment covenants, libel and slander, local government law, legal malpractice, insurance defense, nuisance and trespass, and wrongful death and products liability. Mr. Norman has provided legal representation in these areas to clients throughout the State of Georgia including governmental entities, corporations, banking institutions, small businesses, and individuals. Mr. Norman has been active in State and local Bar activities, including serving as President of the Macon Bar Association, and is a member of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association and the environmental section of the State Bar of Georgia. He also serves as a member of the Georgia Ethics Commission. He has been active in local civic, community, and charitable organizations including the United Way, American Cancer Society and Leadership Macon. Mr. Norman graduated from the University of Georgia in 1977, magna cum laude, and from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1980, cum laude.
