About Robert Huffaker
Mr. Huffaker joined the Firm in 1999 and has litigated a wide variety of civil cases with an emphasis in defending complex commercial, product and lender liability lawsuits. His experience in this area includes litigation of individual cases and mass tort and class action litigation, both at the local and national level. Mr. Huffaker is regularly appointed as a deputy attorney general by the State of Alabama to represent its interests in a variety of litigation, including contract and Title VII actions. While he handles a broad range of complex litigation, in recent years the bulk of his practice has focused on the representation of clients in consumer fraud litigation. His experience has been invaluable in the representation of clients with complex litigation needs. Mr. Huffaker has managed attorneys in other states handling complex litigation for clients nationwide. He has directly handled complex litigation as counsel in federal or state cases in Alabama, Florida, New Jersey, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Washington. PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS Obtained summary judgment in legal malpractice case against lawyer client in underling mass tort case, argued to Kentucky appellate court and affirmed in May 2010 Successfully arbitrated over 35 cases over the previous 10 years Handled over 35 appeals over the previous 10 years, including all Alabama state appellate courts, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court Handled litigation in several states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Washington, New Jersey, South Carolina, and Mississippi Over last three years, majority of cases involve: consumer fraud, Title VII, legal malpractice, FDCPA and FCRA, and product defect PRESENTATIONS Lectured on ethics and the practice of law Lectured on prevention of legal malpractice claims Participated in mock interviews for Vanderbilt University students Participated in mock oral arguments for local law students HONORS AND AWARDS Mr. Huffaker has been appointed a member of the Alabama State Bar Task Force for the Creation of a Federal Practice Section, as well as a member of the State Bar Task Force for Technology in the Courtroom. He served two terms as president of the Federal Bar Association-Montgomery Chapter, and was appointed deputy attorney general to represent the state. A Hugo Black Scholar at the University of Alabama School of Law, he also served on the Alabama Law Review and the John Campbell Moot Court Board. Mr. Huffaker is also member of the volunteer lawyer program, Honor Role. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Mr. Huffaker is a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Montgomery. He is also a board member of Landmarks Foundation, Inc. and a member of the Lions Club.
