Dr. Fisher joined NeuroPhage in January 2008 as Chief Scientific Officer. In 1981, following an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellowship at The University of Chicago in Robert Haselkorn's lab studying the molecular genetics of cellular differentiation of nitrogen-fixing blue green algae, Dr. Fisher became the 15th US-based employee of Biogen (now Biogen Idec). His career at Biogen included positions as Director of Molecular Biology (1985-1992), AIDS program leader (1986-1992), and Director of Science and Technology (1992-1994). Dr. Fisher joined CytoMed, a venture-backed small and large molecule start-up, and in 1998 became VP, Research and Discovery of UCB Research, Inc., when CytoMed was split and acquired by Leukosite/Millennium and UCB Pharma. While at UCB Research he helped create a 100-person small molecule research and discovery site focused on pain, asthma, cough, and epilepsy targets. In 2005, Dr. Fisher moved to GlycoFi, a yeast-based glycoprotein expression technology company, as Senior VP, Research and Product Development, until its acquisition by Merck (2006). Subsequently, he served as CSO of Intranasal Therapeutics, Inc. (now Ikano Therapeutics), a venture-backed specialty pharmaceutical company focused on intranasal drug delivery and led the project to develop an intranasally delivered acute seizure epilepsy drug candidate.
