earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College and established a successful general surgical practice in Nashville. Before joining The MED in 2010, Dr. Coopwood served as both Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer during his tenure at Metropolitan Nashville Hospital Authority (MNHA). Dr. Coopwood possesses extensive experience working with government stakeholders and health industry leaders to develop sustainable solutions for safety net facilities, such as The MED. Dr. Coopwood has earned numerous honors for his work in healthcare, including being named one of Tennessee's Healthcare Top 25 in 2007 and 2009; Nashville Business Journal's Top 100 in Healthcare in 2005 and 2006; and the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center's Excellence in Health Award in 2005. Dr. Coopwood is a member of the Tennessee Hospital Association Board and the American Hospital Association Metropolitan Hospitals Governing Council.
