My goal is to share my legal expertise and knowledge to both support and bring value to our client organizations." As general counsel of SmithBucklin, Michael E. Silverman brings significant experience as a broad-based legal executive to direct the legal strategies and activities of the entire company, including all of its operational units and subsidiaries. Michael joined SmithBucklin in 2000, building and maintaining a valuable single source legal office focused primarily on delivering business-minded legal support to the company. His responsibilities include management of the legal components of all SmithBucklin client and vendor transactions, employment practices, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, corporate governance and dispute resolution. In 2008, Michael assumed the role of lead executive of Affiliated Services, an operational unit of the company which acquires and redistributes affiliated products and services from third parties which are essential to the operations of SmithBucklin's full-service clients. Michael also is responsible for all aspects of administrating the company's Employee Stock Ownership Plan, and leads the initiatives designed to facilitate an ownership culture within the company. Prior to joining SmithBucklin, Michael was an associate attorney for Bollinger, Ruberry & Garvey in Chicago, where he was a commercial and tort litigator, directing all activities up through trial. He also counseled five small corporations in all aspects of their legal and business affairs. He is an active member in the American Corporate Counsel Association, Chicago Bar Association, the National Center for Employee Ownership, The ESOP Association and the Employee-Owned S Corporations of America (ESCA). Michael holds a J.D., cum laude, from John Marshall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois.
