Michael is a partner in SmithAmundsen's Woodstock office focusing his practice on commercial, banking, bankruptcy, and creditors? rights law. He has extensive experience representing banks in various types of litigation including but not limited to: uniform commercial code, automobile dealership cases, personal guarantees, foreclosures, check alterations, fraud, replevins, collections, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, and priority disputes. He also advises bank clients on how to respond to a subpoena for a customer's accounts, a non-wage garnishment of an account, or a federal grand jury subpoena for customer information. A well-rounded banking attorney, Michael has the expertise to draft, edit, and review bank documents for all types of matters. Michael has also drafted complete document packages for multi-million dollar loans, reviewed existing documents for legal sufficiency, provided attorney approval for loans, and consulted on pending loans. Michael is admitted to practice not only throughout the State of Illinois, but also federal courts in the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern and Western divisions), as well as the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Michael was named to the Illinois Rising Stars* list in 2008 and 2009 in banking law, a peer review designation published by Law & Politics magazine. Prior to joining SmithAmundsen, Michael practiced law for two years as a prosecutor at the Whiteside County State's Attorney's Office in Whiteside County, Illinois where he gained valuable trial experience before judges and juries. He also practiced privately at the largest law firm in McHenry County, Illinois. Most recently Michael was the principal of his own firm, The Law Office of Michael G.
