Michael Coe oversees operation at the Hawthorn Group and heads the firms? State and Local Government Relations Practices. In addition he works with Hawthorn clients and state affiliates on strategic and public affairs programs to address legislative issues across the country. For the past three years he as been named on Washington Life Magazine's list of the 250 most influential Washingtonians under the age of 40. Coe joined The Hawthorn Group upon graduating from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he pursued a concentration in international law, including study in Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Greece, and Curacao. He was sworn into the Maryland Bar in December, 2006, and the federal bar in Maryland in April, 2007. Michael also holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Richmond where he was a Bonner Scholar. Prior to attending law school, Michael served as scheduler and legislative aide to Representative Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-CA), where he was responsible for maintaining the Congresswoman's schedule and overseeing a legislative portfolio including agriculture, the arts and humanities, wildlife, and tourism. Michael cut his teeth in politics in Virginia, having interned at the State Democratic Party all throughout his time at the University of Richmond. A native of Oswego, New York, he now resides in Washington, DC with his two black labs, Daphne and Sebastian. An avid tennis player, Michael is heavily involved in the philanthropic work of the Capital Tennis Association.
