About Matthew Abell
Mr. Abell joined Holland & Hart's Intellectual Property Practice Group in 2000. His practice focuses on technology transfer and intellectual property prosecution, including proprietary rights licensing, domestic and international copyright and trademark clearance, enforcement and registration, as well as domain name and cyber squatting conflict resolution, trade secret protection, and software and multi-media licensing. Mr. Abell was recognized by Colorado Super Lawyers as a "Rising Star" in intellectual property in 2011. REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS Trademark Clearance and Registration Mr. Abell has substantial trademark prosecution experience in a wide range of industries, including household consumer products, various software and application service provider technologies, sports apparel, online retailers, banking and financial institutions, and online multi-media providers and network systems providers. He also assists clients in securing trademark registrations around the world. Trademark and Domain Name Enforcement Mr. Abell counsels clients on a wide range of trademark infringement matters involving passing off, reverse passing off, sponsorship confusion, dilution, the Federal Anti-Cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, infringement involving metatags, keyword internet advertising, and initial interest confusion. His practice also involves proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and domain name disputes under the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy. Technology Transfer and Multi-Media Licensing Mr. Abell's practice also focuses on the transfer and licensing of a variety of technologies and intangible assets. His experience includes drafting and negotiating multi-media and traditional licensing agreements as well as patent and know-how licenses and transfers. Mr. Abell's technology transfer practice includes work in the cable, life sciences, software, consumer electronics, household products, and e-commerce industries.
