Marcus Smith Senior Managing Director and General Counsel Mr. Smith joined Third Security upon its inception and has since been principally responsible for legal matters and transaction execution. In connection with his work for Third Security, Mr. Smith has served in various other capacities, including as Secretary and member of the Board of Managers of ECDS, LLC from September 2002 until June 2008 and of its predecessor from October 1999 to September 2002. He served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary and member of the Board of Directors of New River Pharmaceuticals Inc. from August 1996 until April 2004, as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary and member of the Board of Directors of General Injectables & Vaccines, Inc. between 1994 and 1998 and as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Secretary and member of the Board of Directors of GIV Holdings, Inc. between 1996 and 1998. Previously he was an attorney in the legal departments of The Southland Corporation and Occidental Oil & Gas Corporation. Mr. Smith received B.B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Georgia.
