Ken Monroe is chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Bostrom. Monroe has more than 30 years of experience in health care, government affairs and advocacy, and association management at the national level. He is a recognized expert in managing large, national professional associations, as well as small privately held firms. He advises on a variety of subjects including relationship and coalition building; strategic planning; government affairs and advocacy; policy development; governance and structure; staff selection, motivation and team building; with both staff and elected leaders building growth oriented fiscally sound organizations. Monroe joined Bostrom in 1999 and brought with him 27 years of experience with the American Medical Association (AMA), the last 10 of which were as chief operating officer (COO). During his tenure at AMA, Monroe held numerous executive level positions and served as deputy executive vice president and COO from 1988-1997. As COO, Monroe was responsible for a staff of 1,200 and a budget of $240 million. Prior to that he served in senior executive positions and was responsible for marketing and health policy, public affairs and membership. In each position his responsibility included advocating AMA to its many stakeholders. Monroe has been actively involved in health policy development both at AMA and with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Monroe earned his M.B.A. from Loyola University, Chicago, concentrating in economics and marketing. He received a B.S. degree in business administration from Ohio State University, majoring in biostatistics.
