John D. Anderson's deep-rooted belief in promoting the greater public good is powerfully evident in both his personal and professional life. Founding principal of Anderson Mason Dale Architects, John was a staunch proponent of sustainable design, the integration of energy conservation and renewable energy resources into building design, and the use of recycled materials long before these concepts became catchphrases. He continues to promote these principles actively across the profession. Since retiring from the firm, John has continued his active public service. He was the Chair of the Lower Downtown District Review Board from 1994-2004. Since its beginning in 1988, John has participated on the board to review and approve all renovation, demolition, and construction in the Lower Downtown B-7 Historic Zone. Some 25 years ago, he led a successful effort to reunite the University of Colorado's undergraduate and graduate programs under a single college of Design and Planning. Most recently, John was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the University of Colorado Denver in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the University, the State of Colorado, and the planet through his revolutionary career in architecture.
