Joanne H. Raphael is vice president-External Affairs for PPL Corporation. She is responsible for leading internal and external communications, as well as governmental relations and community relations activities for the company and its subsidiaries. Raphael joined PPL in 1988 as an attorney in the Office of General Counsel, becoming corporate secretary of the corporation. In 1997, she was named deputy general counsel to oversee the company's day-to-day legal (nonregulatory) activities. She was appointed to her current position in 1998. A native of Sellersville, Pa., Raphael holds a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from Wellesley College in Massachusetts and a Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School in California. She serves on the boards of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, Pennsylvania Business Council, and Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, Pa.
