If you ask Jerry Sullivan what he likes most about working in the HVAC field, the answer seems to be client contact. 'I like to talk to my customers and get to know them,' Jerry said. 'One time, I went to see a client right around lunch time. There were some good smells coming from the kitchen, so I asked her what was cooking. Unfortunately, it was split-pea soup, and she offered me a bowl,' he laughed. Jerry suffered through the split-pea soup, and in doing so he formed a lasting relationship with a client. And, that's the primary way Jerry has ensured the success of Sullivan Heating & Cooling for the past 10 years. Jerry has been involved in HVAC since working alongside his father in the business as a child. Located in Cheektowaga, his company services primarily Erie County in western New York, including the city of Buffalo and surrounding suburbs. Specializing in residential HVAC installations, Sullivan Heating & Cooling is a Bryant® Factory Authorized Dealer. 'We supply quality installation of new, high-efficiency Bryant heating and air conditioning products, all of which are supported and serviced by factory-trained service technicians and installers,' Jerry said. Additionally, he said that Factory Authorized Parts are important when it comes to making repairs. 'By using the proper parts, we incur fewer callbacks, easily repairing the equipment the first time. This helps keep our reputation strong.' Including Jerry, Sullivan Heating & Cooling currently has seven employees, as well as a fleet of six service vehicles. The company specializes in residential heating and cooling, including the service and installation of furnaces, AC systems, boilers, and hot water tanks, as well as indoor air quality products such as humidifiers and electronic air cleaners. Taking an active role in the community, Jerry said that Sullivan Heating & Cooling sponsors local youth organizations and makes an annual donation to the Town of Cheektowaga Police Department. 'As a businessperson, I'm pleased that we are able to give back to our community in this way,' Jerry said. Despite the down economy, Jerry said that Sullivan Heating & Cooling has faced the economic challenges of the past couple of years by learning about the many stimulus and rebate packages available to customers. 'There is the federal stimulus, as well as manufacturer's rebates and offers from local utility companies. We make sure our clients know about everything that is available to them, and they appreciate that we're able to help them in that way,' Jerry said. Jerry uses many traditional means of marketing his company's services, like TV, radio, and print. He said Sullivan Heating & Cooling has also begun to take advantage of the web, including their own website, www.buffaloheating.com, and Facebook fan page. 'Still, we believe word-of-mouth recommendations from our previous customers is the best way we have been marketed,' Jerry said. Customers like David Ferron, for instance, who recently installed a Bryant system in his home using Sullivan Heating & Cooling. 'Prior to selecting any contractor for a job, I receive multiple quotes and do much research. I talked with eight different HVAC contractors over several weeks, gaining information, pricing and comparisons,' Ferron said. 'The crew Sullivan furnished to remove the old and install the new system did a really nice job. I am very fussy about work quality and the Sullivan folks kept me very satisfied,' he added. 'Sullivan Heating & Cooling came out on top for my application, and I am not disappointed.' This sort of quality and pride in workmanship comes from training employees, using excellent products, and understanding the customer, according to Jerry. 'We believe in properly training our employees so that the job is done right, no matter how big or small,' he said. 'We stress to all team members the importance of customer service, from the way we answer the phone on the customer's first contact, right through the way we leave the customer's home after the job is completed,' said Jerry. 'What is most important to our success is that our customers are 100 percent satisfied with our company throughout the whole process.'
