About Janine Vanderburg
A lawyer, community activist and social entrepreneur, Janine Vanderburg is the founder and president of JVA Consulting, the leading research and consulting firm in the intermountain West focused on community and social change. She has over 30 years experience in starting nonprofits and social enterprises, community organizing and advocacy, developing policy and programs, coaching nonprofit leaders, and assisting government agencies and foundations in their work. In addition to leading JVA, Janine works directly with JVA clients on select engagements in the following areas: ? Developing new leadership for community and social change ? Transforming the national view of the aging baby boomer generation from a silver tsunami to a silver mine ? Creating new models for sustainability, including mergers, shared services/space, earned income enterprises and alternative structures ? Deploying social enterprise as a strategy for community and economic development ? Serving as a senior advisor on JVA research and strategy development projects in the areas above Her clients in 2010 included: Boomers Leading Change in Health, Rose Community Foundation, Hunger Free Colorado, Center for the Study of Social Policy, Center for Improvement of Value in Health Care, Telluride Foundation, Marin Community Foundation, Larimer Center for Mental Health, Indiana Association for Community and Economic Development, the Center for Working Families of Atlanta, and Second Wind Fund, among others. Janine earned a J.D. from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary and a B.A. from Stonehill College. A skilled speaker and facilitator, Janine has trained thousands of people across the country in: developing sustainable social change models; business planning; creating new social enterprises; policy advocacy; engaging community; and civic engagement, especially of the baby boomer generation. She has facilitated sessions at the conferences of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, Social Enterprise Alliance, Grantmakers in Aging, National Association of Regional Councils, Council on Foundations, and numerous local and regional conferences. She is currently a member of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, the Social Enterprise Alliance and the Colorado chapter of the Social Enterprise Alliance. Janine's community involvement has spanned her wide range of interests and has included: being a founding board member of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center, an incubator for social entrepreneurs; co-founder of two community-based education efforts, Friends of Public Montessori Education and Northwest Parents for Excellent Schools; serving on the Advisory Board of the Denver Young Nonprofit Professional Network and on the Fund Development Committee of the Colorado Consumer Health Initiative; serving on several bond/mill levy citizens? committees for Denver Public Schools; and running and/or consulting on several school board, city council and regional transportation district campaigns.
