George has been with Mendes for over thirty-five years. During that period, he has, to a large part, focused his career on financial institutions insurance, particularly, Mortgage Protection insurance and Force Placed insurance. With respect to Mortgage Protection insurance, George has probably handled or overseen more losses than any other attorney in the United States. He has been instrumental in developing new areas of coverage, along with the insurers, and in providing guidelines to financial institutions and their brokers, both in writing and in seminars, of the coverages available and how the insurance would respond to various loss situations. He is looked upon by the London insurance market as the expert in Mortgage Protection insurance. In addition to the above, George has a strong practice concerning fine arts insurance. This practice consists both of direct physical damage insurance and legal liability insurance in favor of auction houses, galleries and museums. He works closely with the insureds, adjusters, brokers and the insurers to resolve difficult and often publicity sensitive issues. George also handles North American property damage losses, including business interruption on behalf of insurers. Finally, his practice includes miscellaneous Errors and Omissions insurance law, protecting such entities as insurance brokers, real estate brokers, property managers, and other quasi professionals. In this area he represents the insurers in reviewing claims against their insureds, as well as assessing the insurers? exposure under their policies. As a result of Hurricane Katrina, he has handled numerous losses under Mortgage Protection policies involving millions of dollars in mortgage loans. He recently handled the extremely high profile insurance claim for physical damage to the Picasso painting Le Reve, owned by Stephen Wynn of casino fame. This matter was resolved to the mutual satisfaction of the insurers and Mr. Wynn. George enjoys outdoor activities. He skis frequently in the winter and swims and body surfs during the summer. He is an avid reader, focusing on history, biographies, Beat literature and anything involving Ernest Hemingway or Theodore Roosevelt.
