Dr. Friedrich is responsible for the engineering methods and processes employed in Rosa's PhysioPD practice. She brings over 10 years of cutting-edge experience in developing and applying mathematical models of biologic/physiologic systems to product development issues faced by biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and consumer product companies worldwide. She has developed or supervised the development of models in diabetes, blood disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, other immune system dysfunctions and inflammatory processes, and skin disorders. Before joining Rosa, Dr. Friedrich was the Director of Core Product Development at Entelos, Inc., a leader in large-scale biosimulation models for the pharmaceutical industry. In that position, she designed and led the development of models in new disease areas and the extension of models into new markets. She also coordinated proprietary software development for new tools and applications. As an Associate Director at Entelos, Dr. Friedrich led large research collaborations with bio-pharmaceutical and consumer products companies. In these collaborations, her teams used predictive modeling to inform decision-making at every point in the discovery and development pipeline. She also led efforts to improve project efficiency, client-team communications about complex models, and research quality by standardizing and automating modeling methodologies. Dr. Friedrich has helped pioneer numerous methodologies, including the use of virtual patient cohorts and populations to represent biological variability and uncertainty, and the identification of biomarkers through systematic interrogation of mechanistic models. Dr. Friedrich's approaches have helped identify novel biomarkers and optimize critical clinical trial protocols. She has presented her methodology and work at numerous systems biology conferences. Dr. Friedrich completed her B.S. degrees in Mathematics and Engineering Systems & Computation at MIT and attained a Ph.D. in Management Science & Engineering at Stanford University, where her research focused on developing heuristic methods for optimizing investment in HIV prevention programs, given limited information. Prior to completing her PhD, Dr. Friedrich was a Software Applications Engineer and then a Senior Product Analyst at Oracle, and a Research Fellow at Kaiser Permanente Division of Research. Dr. Friedrich's hobbies include wrangling a couple of lively toddlers, snowboarding, and enjoying the great outdoors of northern California.
