About Anne Klein
Anne Sceia Klein is the founder and president of Anne Klein Communications Group (formerly Anne Klein & Associates), a national public relations firm based in the Philadelphia region. With four decades of public relations and marketing communications experience in corporations, financial institutions, not-for-profit organizations and agencies, she is a nationally recognized public relations counselor and strategic planner. She also lectures frequently on all facets of public relations, especially crisis and environmental communications, community outreach, and media relations. Anne has garnered numerous honors for her professional activities and accomplishments. In 2007, she was selected as one of New Jersey's Best 50 Women in Business by NJBiz and named the Woman Business Owner of the Year by the South Jersey chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. In 2006, she was honored with the Mentor Award by the Center City (Philadelphia) Proprietors Association. In 2004, she was named to the Philadelphia Public Relations Association's Hall of Fame and in 2006 she was named to Rowan University's Public Relations Hall of Fame. The New Jersey chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) recognized her tireless devotion to excellence and mentoring of young professionals with its 2002 Public Relations Professional of the Year Award. In 2001, she received the Maxine Elkin Award from the Philadelphia chapter of PRSA, honoring her leadership, professionalism, integrity, volunteerism, creativity and commitment; and in 2003, she received the chapter's DeAnn White Award for community service. The Philadelphia chapter of Women in Communications honored her in 1998 with its highest honor, the Sarah Award, for her creativity and professional achievements. Earlier, the same organization named her a "Super Communicator of the '80s" and a "Hale's Legacy" in 1996. In 1993 she was named a Woman of Achievement by Kappa Delta, a national collegiate sorority. In 1991, she was elected to membership in the distinguished College of Fellows in only the second year of the College's existence. That same year, she was named Small Business Person of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey. Under Anne's leadership, the agency has won literally dozens of awards for excellence, including: PRSA's Silver Anvil Award of Excellence Pepperpot Awards from Philadelphia chapter of the PRSA Pyramid Awards from the New Jersey chapter of PRSA Berny Awards from the Public Relations Professionals of Southern New Jersey Jasper Awards from the Jersey Shore Advertising and Public Relations Assoc. She is listed in Who's Who in Public Relations; Marquis' Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Media and Communications, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, and Who's Who in the World. Prior to establishing her firm in 1982, Anne was manager of executive communications for Sun Oil Company (Sunoco). Previously, she headed Sun's press relations department. Before joining Sun, she served as a public relations account executive (corporate and financial) with The Aitkin-Kynett Company (later Golin/Harris) and as director of external communications at Girard (later Mellon and now Citizens) Bank in Philadelphia. Anne earned her accreditation in public relations (APR) in 1972. She has been an active member of PRSA since 1967, serving as Philadelphia chapter president, Mid-Atlantic District chairman, four terms as an assembly delegate, and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Counselors' Academy, an organization that represents the CEOs of public relations firms throughout North America. She was inducted into PRSA's College of Fellows in 1991. She was also a two-term president of Public Relations Professionals of Southern New Jersey and served as its chairperson for nearly 10 years. And she has been a member of the Philadelphia Public Relations Association since 1966. Long active in student education programs, Anne has been a professional advisor to the Rowan University chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) since its founding in 1976. In 1987, the chapter renamed its student-run public relations agency in her honor. Later that year she was named Outstanding Professional Advisor by the national PRSSA organization, and in 1988 the Philadelphia chapter of PRSA named her the first recipient of the Anthony J. Fulginiti Award for outstanding contributions to education. In 2001, in recognition of her 25 years of service, the Rowan chapter named its graduation award for professionalism in her honor. Among many civic and community endeavors, Anne has been a member of the Southern New Jersey Board of the American Heart Association, serving as chairperson of the silent auction in 2002 and auctioneer in 2003 at the annual gala. She has served on the marketing committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Southern New Jersey, and is a member, and former secretary and board member, of Philadelphia's Forum of Executive Women. In addition, she has served for many years on the "Take the Lead" corporate fund-raising committee for the Girl Scouts of Greater Philadelphia. A former member of The PENJERDEL Council, Anne participated on its Regional Issues Taskforce and its program committee of the Environmental Improvement Committee. Anne is the co-author of a chapter on public relations in Get Ready-Get Set-Go-Go-Go!, a marketing primer published in 1997 by the Visiting Nurses Association of America. Anne is also a contributing author of a chapter on "Managing a Crisis in a PR Firm" included in a book by A. C. Croft, APR, Managing a Public Relations Firm for Growth and Profit. She has also contributed to a book on crisis communications entitled You'd Better Have a Hose If You Want to Put out the Fire by Rene A. Henry, APR; she provided crisis communications advice and materials for a 2003 college text, The Public Relations Practitioner's Playbook by M. Larry Litwin, APR. In 2004, she authored a chapter on media relations for a textbook, Forensic Nursing: Concepts and Challenges, published by Jones and Bartlett. A graduate of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in economics and major in marketing, Anne served as a member of the executive committee of the Class of '64 and is a member of The Wharton Club. She received her master's degree in communications from Penn's Annenberg School. Anne lives with her husband and business partner, Jerry Klein, in Medford, N.J., where they are members of the Old Taunton Colony Club. Both have served on the club's Water Quality Committee, and she chaired the Taunton Lake Preservation Initiative.
