WVUAFM

WVUA-FM is a student-operated radio station based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is a chartered student organization with approximately 70-90 student volunteers from the University of Alabama and the surrounding community. The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to the University of Alabama Board of Trustees and operates out of College of Communications facilities. WVUA-FM transmits a stereo FM signal 24 hours a day, providing news, public affairs, and entertainment programming to the University community and much of Tuscaloosa. The station's programming aims to cater to the diverse academic community and serves as a training ground for students interested in broadcasting, offering practical experience in various aspects of radio station operation. WVUA-FM's funding comes from the Media Planning Board (MPB) and the Office of Student Media, which also assists with the annual budget and station manager interviews. The station's general manager, appointed by the Office of Student Media Broadcast and Digital Media Coordinator, oversees the station's operations in collaboration with the student executive staff. WVUA-FM's mission is twofold: to provide quality programming for the University community and to offer educational opportunities for students interested in broadcasting. Students gain valuable experience in areas such as news and public affairs programming, budgeting, underwriting solicitation, personnel management, music programming, promotions, community service, and on-air performance.
