WISE Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability

WISE Wallenberg Initiative Material Science for Sustainability is a research program based in Sweden. Founded with the goal of enabling sustainable technologies, WISE focuses on understanding, creating, and controlling complex materials at the atomic level. The program is driven by a team of four employees and funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. WISE conducts research across several key thematic areas. These include developing materials for clean energy conversion, storage, and distribution, creating circular materials to replace rare or hazardous substances, and discovering materials to mitigate environmental damage and protect natural resources. Additionally, WISE explores the potential of advanced materials for novel sustainable technologies. This ambitious research program is positioned at the forefront of materials science. WISE collaborates with six of Sweden’s leading research universities: Chalmers University of Technology, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, Stockholm University, and Uppsala University. This collaboration ensures a comprehensive and complementary knowledge base to effectively execute its research and educational objectives.
