Village Community Development District

Village Community Development District is a special purpose local government serving The Villages, Florida. It operates as a Community Development District (CDD), a form of government authorized by Florida law. The Villages, a master-planned retirement community with a population of approximately 130,000 residents, encompasses areas in Sumter, Lake, and Marion counties. The district employs 93 individuals and generates approximately $1,000 million in revenue annually. The Village Community Development District is responsible for providing and maintaining essential infrastructure and services within The Villages. This includes roads, transportation paths, storm water systems, underground utilities, curbs, gutters, street lights, water, sewer utility services, recreation facilities, security services, fire protection, and paramedic services. The district also maintains common areas and roadways within commercial areas. Funding for these services is derived from annual special assessments included in property taxes for residents, amenity and utility fees, and commercial maintenance assessments.
