USC Institute for Creative Technologies

The USC Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) is a Department of Defense (DoD) University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), sponsored by the US Army, located in Playa Vista, California. As a research institution, ICT brings together Hollywood expertise, academic innovation, and military-domain knowledge to advance various technological fields. With a staff of 132 employees, ICT generates an annual revenue of $100 million. ICT focuses on research and development in a wide range of areas including Artificial Intelligence, Computer Graphics, Geospatial Sciences, Human Performance, Learning Sciences, Modeling, Simulation & Gaming, Mixed Reality (MxR), Medical VR, Narrative, and Virtual Humans. This research has led to the development of technologies utilized in over 49 Hollywood movies and series. ICT's work has been widely recognized, earning over 140 honors and awards for its faculty and staff. Their research has also resulted in over 2,000 peer-reviewed publications, which have been cited over 100,000 times. Additionally, ICT holds 278 intellectual property disclosures and 29 patents, demonstrating the impact and innovation of its research.
