US Congress

The US Congress is a government body located in Washington, District of Columbia. The organization is comprised of 1,792 employees. The US House of Representatives, part of the federal government's legislative branch, makes and passes federal laws. Representatives are elected to serve a two-year term, representing the people of a specific congressional district. They introduce bills, serve on committees, and offer amendments. The US House of Representatives, alongside the Senate, forms Congress, the legislative branch responsible for lawmaking. There are 435 voting representatives, a number proportional to the population of the 50 states. Five delegates represent the District of Columbia, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and a resident commissioner represents Puerto Rico.
