Urban Dreams

Urban Dreams is a non-profit organization based in Des Moines, Iowa. Founded in 1985, the organization is dedicated to providing a variety of human service programs to Des Moines' inner city residents. With a team of 40 employees, Urban Dreams serves the community with a mission focused on addressing the evolving challenges faced by economically disadvantaged areas of Polk County. Urban Dreams offers a range of programs tailored to the unique needs of the community, including information and referral services and support for ex-offenders. These services are provided at no cost to participants. Recognizing the specific issues facing the area, such as high school dropout rates, high ex-offender residency, gang participation, abandoned property, and crime, Urban Dreams aims to create positive change. The organization functions as a training ground for aspiring counselors and social workers, with some graduates going on to establish their own organizations. Driven by a commitment to community betterment, Urban Dreams collaborates with local churches, Polk County government, educational institutions, and numerous businesses.
