The University of Michigan Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) is an interdisciplinary research center located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With a staff of three employees, CJS is dedicated to promoting and disseminating research on Japan, fostering communication among diverse academic fields, and encouraging innovative approaches to understanding Japan and its global role. CJS serves a wide range of individuals and organizations interested in Japanese Studies. Graduate students, faculty members from various disciplines and professional schools, visiting scholars and artists, and community organizations all find a home within CJS. The center provides a platform for collaborative research, educational programs, and public events related to Japan. Founded in 1947, CJS holds the distinction of being the oldest interdisciplinary center in the United States specifically dedicated to Japanese Studies. Notably, CJS is also a part of The University of Michigan's East Asia US Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center, alongside the Center for Chinese Studies and the Nam Center for Korean Studies.
