United Nations Mine Action Service

United Nations Mine Action Service is a United States-based organization dedicated to coordinating global efforts to address the humanitarian crisis caused by landmines and explosive remnants of war. Founded in 1997, UNMAS employs 497 individuals and generates an estimated $1 billion in revenue annually. UNMAS collaborates with eleven UN departments, agencies, programs, and funds to provide a comprehensive and effective response to the challenges posed by landmines, cluster munitions, and other explosive remnants of war. This collaboration includes coordinating the Inter-Agency Coordination Group on Mine Action, facilitating meetings of standing committees established by the Anti-Personnel Mine-Ban Treaty, and overseeing the Steering Committee on Mine Action, which brings together diverse stakeholders, including governmental, non-governmental, and intergovernmental organizations. The organization's ultimate goal is to contribute to a world free from the threat of landmines and unexploded ordnance. UNMAS strives to create a safe environment conducive to development and ensure that individuals and communities affected by these explosive hazards are fully integrated into their societies.
