UIC Division of Specialized Care for Children

The University of Illinois at Chicago’s Division of Specialized Care for Children (DSCC) is a program based in Springfield, Illinois, that assists children with special healthcare needs and their families. A small organization with two employees, DSCC has been providing essential services since 1937. DSCC guides families navigating their child’s medical journey, collaborating with doctors, schools, and community groups to build a comprehensive support system. They specialize in care coordination, a personalized service designed to address a child’s medical, social, behavioral, educational, and financial needs. DSCC helps families find specialized medical care, understand diagnoses and treatment plans, navigate insurance benefits, and participate actively in school meetings.
