Town of Paonia

The Town of Paonia is a statutory town located in Delta County, Colorado. It is a small municipality with a population of 1,462 as of the 2020 census and employs three people. The town's history dates back to the mid-19th century when it was first explored by Captain John W. Gunnison in 1853. Paonia was officially incorporated in 1902, named after the peony flower brought to the area by Samuel Wade in 1881. Town Hall is located at 214 Grand Avenue in Paonia. The town is situated on the North Fork Gunnison River, about 10 miles northeast of Hotchkiss and near the head of the North Fork Valley. Paonia's geographic location places it at the foot of Mount Lamborn to the southeast and the Grand Mesa to the northwest.
