Tink Knit

Tink Knit is a nonprofit organization based in the United States. Operated by students from Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design, Tink Knit empowers low-income single mothers in Rhode Island to earn supplemental income through knitting. The organization partners with Healthy Families at Meeting Street to provide over 50 single mothers with part-time work opportunities from home, allowing them to care for their children while developing valuable skills. Tink Knit's products include hand-knitted hats, scarves, and headbands. These items are sold through various channels, including the Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design bookstores, an online shop, and pop-up sale events. Since its inception, Tink Knit has demonstrated a significant commitment to social impact. Over the past two years, the organization has generated over $20,000 in revenue, returning over $14,000 directly to the participating mothers. Tink Knit's dedication to empowering women has been recognized through prestigious awards, including the 2015 McKinsey Women’s Impact Award and the 2015 & 2016 Walmart’s Women’s Economic Empowerment Award. Tink Knit is guided by a strong board of directors composed of professionals from various sectors, including McKinsey, JP Morgan, Disney Corporate Strategy, and renowned entrepreneurship professors at Brown University.
