Tibet Oral History Project

The Tibet Oral History Project is a non-profit organization based in Moraga, California, founded in 2003. Established by Dr. Marcella Adamski at the request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the organization focuses on recording the life experiences of Tibetan elders who fled their homeland following the Chinese invasion of Tibet. The Tibet Oral History Project conducts interviews with these elders, aiming to preserve their memories of Tibet's history and culture before their stories are lost. The organization disseminates these interviews through various platforms, including print, broadcast media, and the internet, making them accessible for educational purposes and cultural preservation. Their work has received recognition from prominent institutions. In 2010, the organization was granted an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in acknowledgement of their successes in preserving Tibet's history and culture. The Library of Tibetan Works and Archives has also partnered with the project, incorporating their recordings and transcripts into its collection for scholarly access. The Tibet Oral History Project continues to collaborate with Radio Free Asia, broadcasting interviews with Tibetan elders on their program "Life in Exile," reaching audiences worldwide.
