The Maafa Redemption Project

The Maafa Redemption Project is a social initiative based in Chicago, Illinois. It is a subsidiary of the Pilgrim Development Corporation, the social and economic development arm of New Mount Pilgrim Church. The organization employs 20 to 49 individuals. The Maafa Redemption Project focuses on supporting the most vulnerable population in West Garfield Park: African American males. The project targets this demographic through investments and programs aimed at improving their lives. The project's origins stem from the church's "MAAFA Remembrance" stained glass window, a twenty-five-foot artwork commemorating the history of the Transatlantic African Slave Trade and inspiring redemptive work. This window, serving as the church's brand, encapsulates its mission and ministry, which aligns with the project's goal of transforming West Garfield Park one life at a time.
