The Grannie Annie Family Story Celebration

The Grannie Annie Family Story Celebration is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in St. Louis, Missouri. Founded in 2005, this small team of three employees works to inspire young people to connect with their family history. The organization's mission is to encourage young writers to discover, write, and share stories from their family's past. The Grannie Annie Family Story Celebration welcomes submissions from young people in grades 4 through 8 in the United States, as well as homeschooled and international students aged 9 to 14. Participants are tasked with interviewing older family members and writing about something they learn from their family history, ideally a story that took place before their birth. The organization offers a platform for young authors to share their work with their families, communities, and The Grannie Annie itself. Selected stories are published annually in a paperback book, available in May, and online on the Grannie Annie website. Since 2011, some stories have also been published in a PDF format. Submissions are accepted free of charge, with an annual deadline of February 1st. The Grannie Annie has received submissions from across the United States and internationally, with published stories spanning six continents and approximately 400 years.
