The Computer Action Team PSU

The Computer Action Team PSU, located in Portland, Oregon, is a team of IT professionals dedicated to providing comprehensive technical support within the MCECS. Comprised of 24 employees, including a director, department administrator, full-time staff, student workers, and a dedicated team of volunteer trainees, the CAT is a dynamic organization committed to supporting the diverse technological needs of the institution. The CAT's primary focus is on instructional technology, providing support for a wide range of computer labs, both college-wide and departmental. They also maintain and manage remotely accessible compute and session servers, along with various remote services. Their expertise extends to the server and physical network infrastructure that connects it all. Beyond instruction, the CAT leverages its infrastructure to support research and special projects within the College. Central to the CAT's success is its comprehensive training program, the Braindump, which offers student volunteers a rigorous apprenticeship in various platform areas, user support, and internal software development. This program not only equips trainees with valuable IT skills but also allows them to actively contribute to the CAT's operations, freeing up full-time staff and student workers to focus on complex technical challenges and strategic planning.
