Sustainable Cities Initiative

Sustainable Cities Initiative (SCI) is a cross-disciplinary organization located in Eugene, Oregon. As a research unit of the University of Oregon, SCI focuses on promoting education, service, public outreach, and research related to the design and development of sustainable cities. The organization employs 14 people and generates approximately $2.5 million in annual revenue. SCI's flagship program, the Sustainable City Year Program (SCYP), began in 2009 and has since partnered with numerous Oregon communities. SCYP connects University of Oregon students with local communities to address community-identified issues. This hands-on learning experience allows students and faculty to apply their expertise and offer innovative solutions to real-world challenges. Through the SCYP, communities benefit from increased community outreach, expanded conversations, and cutting-edge solutions.
