Strength In Peers

Strength In Peers is a nonprofit organization based in Harrisonburg, Virginia. As a small organization with four employees, Strength In Peers focuses its efforts on directly serving individuals recovering from mental health challenges and/or substance abuse. The organization offers a range of programs designed to empower individuals during recovery. These include peer specialist support addressing substance use, mental health, and trauma; a prisoner re-entry program; school mentorship; rapid HIV testing; services for people experiencing homelessness; and a community resource center. The community resource center provides information about local resources and referrals, light case management, and access to computer, fax, and printing services. Strength In Peers distinguishes itself by its unique composition. The organization is built upon the lived-experience of its members who have overcome mental health challenges and/or substance abuse. This firsthand understanding allows Strength In Peers to offer tailored support and build genuine connections with those they serve.
