Strategic Analysis Research Training Center

The Strategic Analysis Research Training (START) Center is a research organization based in Seattle, Washington. It is a partnership between the University of Washington and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, established in 2011. The START Center employs 25 people and generates $4 million in annual revenue. The START Center provides high-quality research and analytic support to public health decision-makers. They accomplish this through student-led, interdisciplinary teams of graduate student research assistants and faculty mentors who develop and deliver innovative consultation for global and domestic health programs. The START Center has completed analyses and recommendations for over 215 research requests serving both global and domestic clients. The START Center's unique model involves interdisciplinary teams and cross-university collaborations to serve a diverse clientele and expand its reach into new areas of interest. They also focus on mentoring and training the next generation of public health professionals, having trained over 100 graduate research assistants to date.
