State Cartographers Office

The State Cartographer’s Office (SCO) is a governmental organization based in Madison, Wisconsin, with a staff of 92 employees. SCO is a resource for information about maps, cartography, geographic information systems (GIS), land information systems (LIS), and geospatial technology. The organization supports the Wisconsin geospatial community through a variety of initiatives, including presentations, educational workshops, technical consulting, print and digital publications, online catalogs, and data services. In addition to its internal work, SCO provides services to a wide range of mapping and geospatial data producers and consumers across Wisconsin. This includes assisting the general public with finding and understanding map resources through free online and telephone services. SCO also acts as a liaison between professionals in government, education, non-profits, and the private sector, promoting the adoption and effective use of geospatial technology and methods.
