Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College

The Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College is a small center located in Chestertown, Maryland focused on exploring the multifaceted American experience. With a team of four employees, the Starr Center plays a vital role in enhancing the educational opportunities for Washington College students. The Starr Center offers a range of programs and initiatives designed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences and real-world engagement. These include innovative public history projects, competitive prizes and fellowships, scholarships, internships, and collaborations with prominent cultural institutions across the United States. Furthermore, the Starr Center serves as the home for the Chesapeake Heartland: An African American Humanities Project. This collaborative project, involving the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Washington College, and local organizations, is dedicated to preserving, digitizing, interpreting, and making accessible materials related to African American history and culture in Kent County, Maryland, and beyond.
