Special Operations Command South

Special Operations Command South, located at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida, is a joint military headquarters. It employs over 200 personnel, consisting of military members, Department of Defense civilian employees, and contractors. SOCSOUTH plans and executes special operations in Central and South America, and the Caribbean. These operations primarily utilize Special Operations Forces provided by U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and the Services' Special Operations Forces (SOF) component commands. SOCSOUTH has five subordinate commands, including Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group; Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment; Naval Special Warfare Unit FOUR; 112th Signal Detachment SOCSOUTH; and Joint Special Operations Air Component-South. SOCSOUTH's headquarters staff plans and executes special operations, which involve the use of small units in direct or indirect military actions focused on strategic or operational objectives. These operations require specialized personnel, equipment, training, and tactics beyond the capabilities of conventional military forces.
