South Carolina Respite Coalition

South Carolina Respite Coalition is a non-profit organization based in Columbia, South Carolina. The organization is small, with a staff of three employees. The SC Respite Coalition is dedicated to expanding access to quality respite care for families in South Carolina caring for a member with special needs. Their mission focuses on educating the public about the importance of respite care, developing strategies to enhance respite services, and providing support and resources to families and providers. The SC Respite Coalition distinguishes itself as the sole entity in South Carolina dedicated to addressing respite needs across the lifespan for individuals caring for children or adults with special needs. Founded in 2001, the organization emerged from the vision of over 30 organizations, including Family Connection of SC, Inc., the Center for Disability Resources at the USC School of Medicine, and the Institute for Families in Society at the University of South Carolina.
