Who is South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority
The South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) is a government agency based in Columbia, South Carolina. Established in 2012, PEBA is governed by an 11-member board of directors and employs 105 people. PEBA is responsible for administering and managing the state's employee insurance programs and retirement systems. These include the South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS), the largest pension plan for public employees in the state, established in 1945, and the State Health Plan, which covers most of the state's public employees and was created in 1972. PEBA was formed by consolidating the former Employee Insurance Program and South Carolina Retirement Systems divisions of the S.C. Budget and Control Board.
