San Antonio Conservation Society

The San Antonio Conservation Society is a nonprofit organization based in San Antonio, Texas. Founded in 1924, it is one of the oldest historic preservation nonprofits in the United States. The organization has a staff of 18 employees. The San Antonio Conservation Society works to protect the historic and cultural heritage of San Antonio and the surrounding area. This includes the Missions, historic neighborhoods like King William, farm and ranch complexes, and individual buildings. The Society offers Heritage Education Tours for fourth-grade students, educational seminars and workshops for teachers and the public, community grants for preservation and educational projects, and building and publication awards. The Steves Homestead House Museum, located in King William, provides daily tours of a 19th-century home showcasing the lives of German families along the San Antonio River. Each spring, the Society hosts "A Night in Old San Antonio," a preservation celebration and fundraiser that attracts over 85,000 visitors to historic La Villita.
