Riverside Theatre

Riverside Theatre is a non-profit organization located in Iowa City, Iowa. Founded in 1981, the theatre is currently in its 39th season of operation and employs 19 people year-round. During each performance season, Riverside Theatre expands its workforce to include over 100 artists. Riverside Theatre focuses on producing intimate, engaging theatrical productions ranging from classic plays to contemporary works. The theatre operates from September through April, presenting a full season of shows, and in June and July, they offer a summer season featuring classic plays and a free production of Shakespeare for the community. They are affiliated with Actors’ Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers in the United States. Riverside Theatre provides housing, salary, and transportation to visiting actors and directors during their employment. A commitment to supporting the community is central to Riverside Theatre's mission. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the theatre relies heavily on contributions and sponsorships, which account for 50% of its income. Riverside Theatre believes its work strengthens the cultural fabric of Iowa City by fostering an appreciation for the dramatic arts.
