Professional Editors Guild PEG

Professional Editors Guild PEG is a national body based in Johannesburg, South Africa, with a staff of 4 employees. Founded in 1993, PEG operates three branches across the country: Gauteng, Western Cape, and KwaZulu-Natal, each managed by a volunteer committee. PEG serves professionals working in the South African publishing industry, corporate communications, and media. The organization's membership encompasses both freelance and full-time professionals who work in any of South Africa's nine official languages, as well as other languages. This diverse group includes writers, copy-editors, subeditors, overwriters, translators, proofreaders, indexers, book designers, and book and magazine DTP specialists. PEG is dedicated to several core objectives. The organization strives to promote high standards of copy-editing and proofreading, uphold the professional status of its members, and foster communication and information sharing among them. PEG also aims to raise public awareness of the importance of copy-editing and proofreading services and to establish connections with similar organizations worldwide. As a founding member of the Alliance of Language and Media Professionals (LAMP), PEG actively participates in promoting the interests of language and media professionals within South Africa's key economic sectors.
